Emergency Kit Essentials

We all dream of the perfect wedding day. Sunshine, a light breeze, mimosas in the morning, and not a care in the world. Unfortunately, the day doesn’t always go as planned.

After walking through the grass for photos, you notice a little dirt on your hemline. You had your last fitting, and the dress was perfect, but then you lost or gained five pounds. You just finished at the hair salon, and a curl fell loose. It’s okay, breathe. These things happen. When they do, it’s best to be prepared! Before the big day, make an emergency kit and assign it to your attendant or maid of honor to keep track of throughout the day. Be sure to include these important items!

Baby Powder and Deodorant

Crowded in a room, you may get a little extra sweaty. Baby powder absorbs extra moisture, and deodorant will help mask any leftover smell.

Cash

You never know when you might need extra cash. From tips for your vendors to hitting up the vending machine down the hall, it’s a good idea to have some fives and tens on hand.

Dental Floss

The last thing you want is to have a piece of lettuce, bacon, or any other food items preserved for eternity in your photos. By carrying dental floss in your emergency kit, you’ll be prepared to smile wide when the time comes.

Extra Earring Backs

How many times have your earring backs gone missing or fallen off? Pack some extra rubber backs that will go on any earring, so if you or your bridesmaids lose a backing you don’t have to go without the accessory.

Fabric Tape

Quick fix to simple problems like falling hemlines and plunging necklines!

Hair Comb, Spray, Ties, and Bobby Pins

With such an early start at the salon, it isn’t uncommon for hair to get a little loose, veils or other headpieces to slide, or hair to get stuck where you don’t want it.

Lighter

Did you know you can burn fabric if it starts to fray to prevent it from unraveling?

Mini First Aid Kit

Band-aids, burn cream, antibiotic ointment, etc.

Mini Sewing Kit

Needle and thread (black, white, and the color of your bridesmaids’ and groomsmens' attire), buttons, safety pins, and scissors.

Mirror

If you’re getting ready in a room without mirrors, you may want to have one on hand. Something small is perfect, so you can double check your makeup and hair before you head to the ceremony or reveal.

Nail Clippers, File, and Polish(es)

Bring some clear polish and stock up on the shades you and your bridesmaids are wearing. If anyone’s nails chip or get caught, you have everything you need on hand.

Pain Reliever(s)

From menstrual cramps to headaches, or just plain ol’ body aches, pain may strike when you least expect. It’s never a bad idea to keep these essentials handy no matter what the occasion! Bring a variety, including ibuprofen (Advil), acetaminophen (Tylenol), and naproxen (Aleve) for starters.

Phone Chargers

Unless you plan on locking your phone up for the day, you may end up taking tons of photos with your guests, posting on social media, playing music at the salon, or surfing the web throughout the day. Keep a phone charger handy so you don’t end up with a dead battery before the ceremony or reception. Note: It isn’t the end of the world if your phone does die. Make sure all your vendors have the numbers of attendants and parents in case they need something, and just ask your guests to forward you any photos you’re in together. This also takes some of the stress off you. If your phone is blowing up all day, you might be distracted from what matters.

Razor

We know you and your girls shaved or waxed last night, or maybe even the morning of, but you never know when you might run into a missed patch of hair.

Stain Remover

Something portable can become your best friend in case of a spill. With your white dress, you don’t want to risk it.

Straws

Keep your lipstick intact by sipping your drinks through the day with straws! If you don’t want to carry around straws, it’s a good idea to have the shade of lipstick you’re wearing handy in case you need a touch-up.

Super Glue

Like duct tape, super glue can fix a number of things including shoes, jewelry, headpieces, and everything in between!

Tissues

It’s said that your wedding day and birth of a child are some of the most emotional days of your life. From the first look with your gal pals to the reveal with your father or fiance, happy tears are bound to fall. When they do, blot your eyes with some tissues to keep your makeup from running. Note: it never hurts to have some concealer or foundation on hand in case your makeup does get a little messy.

Toothbrush (and paste)

After you eat your lunch, you may want to freshen up. If you don’t have time, you can always try a breath mint!

Other items to remember on your wedding day, that don’t necessarily need to be a part of the emergency kit, are water bottles and snacks. Make sure you and your wedding party are staying hydrated throughout the day. You also don’t want to skimp on food before you exchange vows. The last thing you need is to be standing by the altar feeling faint and dizzy from lack of food or water. Hydration is key, but a small snack will also keep your blood sugar at a good level to keep you upright during the ceremony and reception.
