Have you ever considered something quaint? It can be nice to get away from the big weddings and turn toward something a little cozier and close-knit.

You might be told you need “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue” on your wedding day, but have you ever considered something quaint? It can be nice to get away from the big weddings and turn toward something a little cozier and close-knit.

What does quaint mean? Quaint is an adjective that simply means “attractively unusual or old-fashioned.” The trick is discovering how to include something quaint in your ceremony or reception. There are several ways that work; unlike the traditional English poem, something quaint doesn’t have to apply to just the bride and it doesn’t have to be something the bride carries with her on her special day.

If you and your significant other are looking for a more intimate, quaint wedding, here are a few suggestions to make that possible!

Keep it Small Sticking to your budget-friendly goal can be more achievable by applying smaller details to the party and guests. It can be overwhelming when the wedding party gets large. Keep your bridesmaids and groomsmen to a minimum by asking your sibling(s) or best friend. Another way to consolidate numbers is by eliminating guests. If you don’t want to offend anyone, try inviting immediate family and closest friends only to the ceremony and send separate invites to the reception!

Pro tip: go through your texts and messages from the last three months. If you haven’t talked to them, then maybe they don’t need an invite to the ceremony.

Choose an Unusual Venue Just a hop, skip, and jump away there are so many beautiful venue options in the Black Hills region. Gather your crew and ride together to Circle View Guest Ranch on the edge of the Badlands or share your vows in a serene outdoor venue nestled in the pine trees at Black Hills Receptions & Rentals. Each venue offers some unique aesthetic and all are great get-away spots. For a full list of venues view our favorite vendors list.

Pro tip: Skip the hassle; string up some simple white lights in your backyard or an open area in the hills and toss some flowers down your aisle. This is a great way to save on your budget and creates a unique cozy and welcoming atmosphere to celebrate in.

Consider Design If you still want an elaborate ceremony and reception, think about how you can incorporate quaint into your design and theme. The simpler, the better. Rent or buy basic wooden tables and chairs and opt out of a more traditional place matting with a single table runner (using your color theme) and a few candles or flowers as centerpieces. This look is small yet elegantly classic.
